Congratulations to East Valley High School (EVHS) students Dante Johnson ‘24 and Bryghton Tauscher ‘25. Both have been recognized for their talent as performers in drama and music. Dante’s in 1st Place!
The National Association of Teachers of Singing named Dante the 2023 1st place winner in the Upper HS Music Theatre category (National Student Auditions).
“I have been singing for as long as I can remember,” says Dante. “I fell in love with theater in 9th grade when I was cast as Donkey in Shrek, which performed right here at EVHS!)
The Theater and Performing Arts program at East Valley High School gives every student the opportunity to produce and perform plays and musicals in our incredible on-campus theater. “My favorite part of my role at EVHS is watching our students accomplish something truly special on stage,” says performing arts teacher, Allison Zuccaro. “I love to see my students’ creativity come to life as they realize they have skills and talents beyond what they thought possible.”
EVHS offers every student the chance to shine. Dante who hopes to perform on Broadway someday explains, “School has always been difficult for me. I knew that the small and supportive environment would be the right fit for me to finish high school.”
Bryghton’s a Star!
Bryghton has been nominated for an AriZoni Theatre Award of Excellence for her performance in East Valley Children’s Theatre’s Beauty and the Beast. Awards will be handed out in October. (Stay tuned!)
In addition to musical theater and drama, EVHS offers a rock band elective. Director of Music, Mark Arendse developed the program to inspire students to step out of their comfort zone and express themselves. “My role as the Director of Music has allowed me to work closely with individuals finding hidden talent and providing opportunities to bring out their musical gifts,” he says.
